This
Here is the Story of Independents Only
Once
upon a time, about 3 years ago, our main character
Monk worked at a radio station in Birmingham, AL called
Z100.5 (WANZ). He worked the night shift and played
all the cool music but felt that he and his listeners
needed more. So, our fearless friend came up with
the idea to do an indie show! There was very little
indie music on the radio in those parts and very little,
if any support of the local scene.
The
ball was sent rolling; the idea was approved and out
came IndieZ Only! The show ran on Sunday nights for
about a year, then moved to its new 2-hour time slot
on Saturday. All the town's people received the show
well and helped support shows that IndieZ Only presented
with bands like The Dresden Dolls, Left Front Tire,
Bain Mattox, Drive-By Truckers, Soundevice and more!
But,
in every great story you have to have a villain. Enter
in the fact that the radio station Monk worked for
was independently owned and was eventually challenged
to a duel by a bigger company. After some time, and
avoiding all of the gruesome details of their battle,
Z100.5 did not survive and sadly, neither did IndieZ
Only.
Monk
was sad. He had made a lot of friends in the music
business: bands, promotions people, and records reps...
He also wanted to continue those relationships. He
wanted to continue letting people hear the great independent
music that was out there.
What's that? In the distance we hear the gallop of
a great white stallion and on it's back sits a website
named IndependentsOnly.com! (At least it sounded good
for this story)
So,
this is IndependentsOnly.com. Nice to meet ya. We
figure it will forever be a work in progress as any
website should be. You will see plenty of changes,
some you may like, and others you might not. We will
have features, photos, interviews, and reviews. Hopefully
you will like our website and tell your friends.
In
the end, IndependentsOnly.com came to town to help
promote indie and unsigned bands and with any luck
give the town's folk a bit of hope in this world of
short careers, long contracts and one hit wonders. |
